Dasara functions at siva vishnu temple
Sarada Navaratri being celebrated at siva vishnu temple from Thur., Oct. 11 – Sun., Oct. 21, 2007.
Sarada Navaratri, as it is called since it occurs during the fall season (Sarad Ritu) is one of the
most popular Hindu festivals spanning a period of nine nights. The Goddess in the form of
the Universal Mother is commonly worshipped during the nine nights and ten days and hence
it is also known by the name of Devi Navaratri. Three aspects of the Divine Mother, namely
Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati are worshipped during the nine nights, the tenth day being
celebrated as Vijaya Dasami. It is considered auspicious to start new ventures, especially in
the field of education, on Vijaya Dasami. Reading the Durga SaptaSati (also known as Devi
Mahaatmyam) and Ramayanam is also common during the Navaratri.
Details of the puja can be found in ssvt news letter at in http://www.ssvt.org/events/newsletter/October2007.pdf
